One of the key drivers behind the Intelligence Hub is to provide economic evidence to support the development of policy and programmes across the Region. This is done in a variety of ways.
Data Capture: The Intelligence Hub provides a wide range of data and analytics functions at a Regional and local authority level. It maintains a database of over 100 economic indicators, taken from national sources, covering a range of issues including:
- Economy
- Labour Market
- Enterprises
- Population and Demography
- Poverty and Inequality
- Housing
- Transport
- Tourism
- Green
The data is captured at a local authority and national level. To enable comparative assessment of the Glasgow City Region, the team also captures data for the regions of the UK’s Core City Regions – these are the regions which share a similar economic history as Glasgow City Region. This assessment underpins a wide range of work such as the Regional Economic Baseline.
The Hub has been working with the Urban Big Data Centre at Glasgow University to develop a dashboard of key indicators. This tool provides an easy of way of comparing key datasets at a local authority and regional level.
The team also conducts bespoke data analysis exercises. See the Hub Resources page for examples. If there is a specific topic of interest, please get in touch to find out what we can do or have done already.
Economic Modelling: The Hub has also been working with the Fraser of Allander Institute at Strathclyde University to build a Computable General Equilibrium model for Glasgow City Region. It is the first one in the UK and allows the Region to model the economic impact of policy or programmes changes on the Regional economy. This is a really powerful tool that will help guide how we make investment decisions in the Region.
A key component of the CGE model is the development of the supply use tables for the Region. These tables are available upon request.
