Tontine Based Entrepreneur up for Top Tech Award
Tontine based entrepreneur and Glasgow University alumni Dr Carla Brown, is celebrating her latest success after being shortlisted as a finalist in the Everywoman UK Tech Awards in their Entrepreneur category for her innovative work in technology within the health sector.
Founder of Game Doctor, which was launched in 2016; microbiologist Carla’s fledgling enterprise which is comprised of scientists and game developers – uses gamification to change the way health information is communicated and tracked, to ensure patients receive accurate information in an imaginative and engaging way.
By using interactive games and technology to boost engagement with patients and the public, Game Doctor uses game analytics to track patients’ knowledge gaps, attitudes and behaviours in health. There is a specific focus on using this approach across complex topics that are have some of the greatest impacts within healthcare, and that traditional awareness campaigns are not addressing.
Providing services to the science and healthcare industry as well as academic institutions, examples of Game Doctor’s innovative work include the development of interactive games to educate participants on subjects including antibiotic resistance, obesity, and pneumonia. The data generated from their gaming applications, also enables a greater understanding of patient knowledge gaps, attitudes and misconceptions which feeds into the design of future interventions and campaigns to increase their efficacy.
Carla said; “I’m delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award and it’s a great reflection on my team’s innovative work as well as my own determination to make a difference in the healthcare sector and improve engagement across important topics. I’m immensely proud that we are developing gamified technology that resonates with the technology that the public and patients already use in their everyday lives. Being based at Tontine has given our team the flexibility to develop and we are looking forward to new challenges and future successes ahead.”
