City Deal Projects
M77 Strategic Corridor
The M77 Strategic Corridor Programme aims to support the planned growth of Newton Mearns and the regeneration of the town of Barrhead. The project will stimulate economic growth in East Renfrewshire through projects that improve transport links, increase leisure opportunities, support business development, create jobs, and unlock residential land.
The programme consists of six sub-projects:
The New Railway Station at Barrhead will deliver a new purpose-built railway station on the Glasgow to Neilston line with capacity for a bus interchange and associated car parking. It will provide a sustainable transport solution for the existing community as well as a new residential community proposed at Barrhead South, as well as providing easy and direct access to the Dams to Darnley country park – where new and improved visitor facilities are proposed.
The Aurs Road project aims to improve local connections between Newton Mearns and Barrhead, and will release land to develop the Dams to Darnley Visitor Facilities sub-project which will follow on post-completion. The project includes road realignment, replacement of a weak bridge to allow a bus route along the corridor, and the provision of a pedestrian/cycle promenade along Balgray reservoir.
Interdependent on the Aurs Road realignment, the Dams to Darnley Visitor Facilities project will involve the creation of new visitor facilities at Dams to Darnley Country Park – providing key facilities to stimulate sustainable growth in visitor numbers.
The Levern Works project saw the construction of 843sqm of new workshop space in ten business units at Crossmills, and the completion of remediation and preparation of a 0.93 brownfield site at the former Nestle Purina factory – with a development agreement now in place for a mixed-use scheme on the bulk of the site.
The Business Boost project saw the creation of enhanced facilities at The Foundry in Barrhead and the construction of a new build business centre at the Greenlaw Works, Newton Mearns. The project provides high-quality office accommodation to meeting a growing local demand, helping to stimulate economic growth and create opportunities for start-up and SME businesses to develop and grow locally. The Greenlaw Works is a 20,000sqft building which comprises 35 office suits, meeting rooms, breakout areas, a co-working lounge, parking and a Business Gateway present on-site.
