Tontine Continues to Deliver Business Growth
Based in the Merchant City, Tontine supports and sustains the development of high-growth companies in the enabling technology, advanced design and manufacturing, and creative economy sectors. It attracts and nurtures high growth entrepreneurial talent and is host to many of Glasgow’s significant growth companies of the future, offering high-quality and adaptable workspaces.
The first Glasgow City Region City Deal project to open in Glasgow, the business accelerator has been a huge success, which saw office and desk capacity at 95% after the first year.
Tontine also collaborates with partners, examples of which include joint working with The Scottish Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications (SoXSA) to identify space companies with high growth potential to enter the Scottish Space Incubator Programme, and the University of Strathclyde which delivered a tailored ‘accelerator programme’, offering relevant, accessible and practical learning to support nine Tontine based enterprises with growth aspirations.
As of the end of August 2018, Tontine has supported 30 businesses which have delivered a combined increase in turnover of £39.8 million and generated 369 jobs.
In the longer term, the business incubator is expected to generate £53.6million for the economy of the Glasgow city region through its status as a space for companies to grow in a supported environment.
Both the UK and Scottish Governments are providing the Glasgow City Region local authorities with £500million each in grant funding for the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
