Campaign to Make Glasgow City Region a Living Wage Place celebrates major milestone of 100 newly accredited businesses

Since November 2024, 108 businesses have been Living Wage accredited, more than 50% of the Region’s ambitious target of 200 businesses accredited this year.

Since the campaign launch, more than 1,500 individual employees have seen their wages uplifted to the real Living Wage — and more than 1,250 employers in total now hold Living Wage accreditation across the Region.

Research has shown that Living Wage accredited employers have made savings on retention, recruitment and training of new staff, and 94% of employers have reported having benefited from Living Wage accreditation.

For employees, the real Living Wage allows people the opportunity to provide for their families and plan for the future. Employees feel more valued and appreciated, making them more motivated and loyal to their employer.

The Region’s campaign to Make Glasgow City Region a Living Wage Place launched in November 2024, the first city region in Scotland to do so. Backed by Living Wage Scotland and supported by local leaders and key employers, the campaign includes targets to grow both the number of accredited employers and the number of employees being paid at least the real Living Wage.

The real Living Wage is an independently calculated rate based on the cost of living and set by the Resolution Foundation annually.

The rate, which is currently £12.60, is based on the wage necessary to ensure that households earn enough to reach a minimum acceptable living standard.
