Announced in January 2026, the UK Government’s Local Growth Fund will provide £60.9 million to Glasgow City Region over three years to support enabling infrastructure, business support, and skills and employability across the Region.
A Local Growth Fund Investment Plan for Glasgow City Region was developed in partnership with the eight councils. It was considered by the Regional Partnership, approved by Cabinet in May 2026, and approved by the UK Government in August 2026.
The Plan sets out how the funding will be used to drive economic growth and enable strategic decision-making, across the Fund’s revenue and capital allocations.
Revenue
Revenue funding in year one will support the eight councils to deliver established Business Support, Skills and Employability interventions, enabling contintuity of provision from previous UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocations.
Allocations for years two and three (2027/28 and 2028/29) will support the developing Regional Empowerment agenda.
Capital
Capital funding will build on established activity across the Region, to fund three key programmes:
- £20 million to support an extension to the Region’s Enabling Commercial Space programme, addressing a well-evidenced shortage of high-quality business space in the Region.
- £2.5 million to develop a Green Business Support programme, offering SMEs grants of up to £10,000 to help them transition to net zero.
- (From year two onwards) £20 million to support Regional Projects of Scale, a programme of capital projects across Glasgow City Region that support the Regional Economic Strategy and Local Growth Fund priorities.
