Supporting local business growth and employment

At Crossmills Business park in Barrhead, the development of new commercial units and preparation of an adjacent 17-acre former factory site for private sector investment – is supporting local business growth and employment. Community Benefits established through the procurement allowed contractor W.H. Malcolm to offer work experience placements to young apprentices, one of whom – Cameron Laidlaw (19) – has now secured a permanent job with the company.

“Ever since I left school I’ve been interested in construction and have done a few courses. West College Scotland got me a 2 week placement with Malcolms through the Construction Skills Academy and I learned about hard landscaping. It’s hard work but being offered a job is brilliant! I didn’t expect to get it – it’s my first proper job! I’m so grateful to the Council and Malcolms for giving me the chance, as it gives me a job and the opportunity to progress. Hopefully in 5 years’ time I’ll be higher up with Malcolms.”
