Mobile Phone Mapping

A mobile phone coverage survey is being carried out across council areas within Glasgow City Region, the largest of its type in Scotland.

Data is being gathered about the strength of signal from the UK’s four mobile operators – EE, Vodafone, Three and O2/Virgin Media.

The information is then being made available on an interactive coverage checker map for people to see which mobile networks offer the fastest speeds outside of the home, workplace or other locations of interest.

The initiative which launched in Inverclyde in November 2024 is currently being rolled out across North Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, and East Renfrewshire.

The study will help to identify accurate, mobile coverage across the Region and make this data available to the public.  This will allow individuals and organisations to make informed decisions about which providers to choose. It will also help boost public and private sector service delivery.

Surveys have been completed for the Inverclyde Council and North Lanarkshire Council areas.

Residents of these council areas can use the free, easy-to-use tool to understand which mobile networks offer the fastest speeds outside of home, business or other locations of interest.

Details of when the new coverage checker is available for the other participating council areas will be posted on this page.
