Leaders and decision makers from key utility and infrastructure providers and local authorities joined forces at the second Glasgow City Region Infrastructure Summit.
The summit was co-chaired by Douglas Millican, Chief Executive of Scottish Water and Cllr Tony Buchanan, Leader East Renfrewshire Council and portfolio lead for infrastructure for the Glasgow City Region.

Building on the commitment to closer collaboration agreed at the inaugural summit, this meeting provided an opportunity to report on the progress to date. Presenters from local authorities and utility providers reported on a successful pilot project and a guest speaker from the Greater London Authority shared experiences and lessons learned in using shared mapping data to accommodate growth.
Cllr Tony Buchanan, Leader East Renfrewshire Council and portfolio lead for infrastructure for the Glasgow City Region commented:
“In establishing the infrastructure summit, we recognised an opportunity not be missed. By creating this forum for high level discussion with key decision makers, our goal is to build on City Deal investment.
“Through our working group, we have gained a better understanding of the investment plans and constraints facing our providers of water, power, gas, transportation and telecommunications. We aspire to develop and implement parallel strategic programmes and projects with our utility and infrastructure partners, to maximise the economic value and impact of the £1.13 billion City Deal investment to the Glasgow City Region. Inclusive growth is a key priority for us, ensuring economic growth benefits everyone.

Utility and infrastructure providers represented at the summit were Scottish Water, SP Energy Networks, SGN, SEPA, Openreach, Virgin Media, City Fibre, Transport Scotland and Network Rail.
