City Deal bridge to open up new opportunities
Three council leaders have teamed up to look at the possible locations for the new opening bridge across the Clyde from Renfrew to Yoker or Clydebank.
The Leaders of West Dunbartonshire, Glasgow City and Renfrewshire Councils teamed up to view potential locations. They believe that the bridge will bring ‘significant investment, jobs and transport benefits’ to the area.
Following successful community events in Renfrew, Paisley and Braehead, residents and businesses on the north side of the river are now being invited to see the plans, meet the City Deal Project Team and express their views about the project.
Councillor Mark Macmillan, Leader of Renfrewshire Council said, “When this bridge is built, Renfrew will be at a pivotal point in the region’s transport network and economy.
The new bridge will increase the potential for business to grow by improving their connections with customers and suppliers on both sides of the river. It will also enhance access to land which is currently underused or derelict; unlocking the potential for regeneration and new development.
The proposed bridge is part of the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside Project and is funded by the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal investment in infrastructure. Work is expected to start on site in 2018 and take two years to complete.
Public exhibitions showing the options for infrastructure being considered on the CWRR & GAIA projects were held in the communities in the vicinity of the potential works. These events were held in Paisley, Renfrew, Clydebank and Yoker communities during May and June 2016.
If you missed the opportunity to meet the team and see the plans and how they’ll benefit your community you can still view the proposals – details can be found in ‘related documents’ section of this page.
Unfortunately, in order to allow comments received to be considered by the project teams as part of the appraisal process, the opportunity to provide feedback on this phase of engagement closed on 01 July 2016. However, there will be opportunities to view the updated plans for the preferred options at similar events later this year. Dates and times of these events will be publicised nearer the time – sign up to our City Deal mailing list to be notified when these are announced.
