Smart Social Assets Showcase Event: Showcasing Smart Housing Innovation in Glasgow City Region

Join us on 9 September 2025 for the Glasgow City Region Smart Social Housing Summit – a dedicated showcase event highlighting how new technology is transforming housing and communities across the Region.
The event will showcase the Smart Social Assets project, which is a core part of the Region’s Smart and Connected Social Places programme, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) through the 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme.
It will provide a wider opportunity for project partners to collaborate, network and share knowledge about projects underway both in the Region and more widely across the UK, with partners from Greater Manchester Combined Authority joined to share their experience and approaches.
Projects being showcased include:
- Barrhead Housing Association is expanding on a previous trial by installing sensors across a broader selection of properties in East Renfrewshire. The work builds on insights from a sheltered housing pilot focused on fuel poverty. The extended project now includes void identification, damp prevention, and energy efficiency. The association aims to use this trial to develop a scalable model for deploying IoT at estate level and to evidence the funding required for full implementation.
- Bield Housing Association is deploying a suite of IoT sensors across 146 properties in Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, and Renfrewshire. These sensors will monitor damp and mould, fire risk, energy portfolio performance, and electric heating efficiency. Bield’s goal is to use this evidence to justify estate-wide adoption across more than 5,000 homes. The expected benefits include both cost savings in service delivery and measurable improvements to tenant wellbeing and housing conditions.
- North Lanarkshire Council is currently undertaking a piece of work to understand how the deployment of sensors and IoT technology across their estate can help them to provide not only a more effective and efficient service to residents but also to enhance their care and support wellbeing. Examples of projects being considered include the early identification of conditions leading to damp and mould enabling early intervention and more effective and efficient response.
The showcase will reinforce Glasgow City Region’s position as an attractive location for innovation, business and investment.
